Building a pergola

Posted in 'How-to' Guides, Garden Structures on July 13th, 2011 by Julian Cassell – 2 Comments

A pergola provides an attractive garden structure for supporting and growing plants. In the past, you’d have to measure and cut all the components to size yourself, but these days building a pergola is made much easier as you can simply buy one in kit form. There are many different types of fence, but in this section I’m showing one of the most common designs, often called a panel fence. Even if your chosen design is not like this, most (if not all designs!) require posts, and you can adapt the technique shown here to suit your requirements. The technique you use is first determined by whether you are on soft or hard (concrete) ground. read more »
